«Let Irina Grebaus transport you into her world of classical music, jazz and pop»
— Schweizer Illustrierte
Irina Grebaus is a pianist and composer. Her music brings together classical piano artistry, the freedom of jazz and contemporary sounds. Through original compositions, film music and personal interpretations, she explores movement, light and emotion. Her training in Lausanne and Zurich provides the foundation for this varied musical world.
Her artistic range spans many genres, from classical music to jazz and pop. She performs with several ensembles, including SwissDuo (pianocello.ch), Authentic Light Orchestra, Pianobeat and 2foryou.
Irina Grebaus trained at two renowned institutions. At the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU), she studied piano, harpsichord and organ. At Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), she specialised in jazz piano. After graduating, she spent several years as a répétiteur and accompanist for oboe, flute, double bass and singing classes at the music school in Lausanne.
Irina Grebaus also creates her own distinctive compositions. She believes that musicians should not only understand and master their instruments, but also embrace and experience music in all its facets.
Irina develops many of the arrangements for SwissDuo with Sandi Toka Nova. She reimagines familiar melodies for piano and cello, shaping their musical arc with careful detail and space for both instruments to respond to each other.
Professional training in three keyboard instruments opens up different sound worlds. Her exploration of musical periods and styles informs her playing, alongside her experience of working closely with other musicians in chamber music.
For many years, Irina has performed regularly in piano bars and hotels in Zurich and the surrounding cantons. Classical music, jazz, swing, pop, soul and film music come together in evenings whose musical flow responds to the audience, room and mood.
Alongside acoustic piano, Irina can perform with professionally produced backing tracks on request. With Sandi Toka Nova, she performs as SwissDuo on cello and piano or cello and organ.
